You can have a great engine and drivetrain, comfortable interior, fantastic handling, everything else you could possibly want in a car…but none of it does you any good without safe, reliable brakes. Whether you have a touring car or race car, or just want to overhaul or upgrade your existing brakes, we’ve got everything you need to do a complete job.
Before the mid-1970s, most American cars were equipped with drum brakes on all four wheels. The combination of bias-ply tires, no power assist, soft shocks, loosey-goosey steering and drum brakes all around made for a dicey thrill-ride experience at high speeds! We stock brake conversion kits, with calipers, pads, rotors, hangers, spindles and all hardware necessary for a complete switch from drums to discs!
Older cars tend to have problems with dry-rotted brake lines, which means an unsafe situation. We carry brake hose for many different applications, in either OEM-style rubberized hose or braided-steel-clad hose. Braided-steel is a good pick for more reasons than good looks – the steel jacket means less expansion than rubber, and better, more consistent braking response. If you’ve got a truck or SUV with a lift kit, we also carry relocation brackets to make it easy to re-route and re-mount extended brake lines.
Working on a hot rod? Think how good it’ll look with a chrome-plated vacuum booster on the firewall…and you can complement that with a stainless master cylinder cap.
The basics of a braking system aren’t that difficult or complicated, and are usually well within the grasp of a shade-tree mechanic with decent skills. If you’re wanting to take on the job, come to us and we’ll get you what you need!
