If you’ve ever taken a long trip in a car or pickup from the Seventies, with just a plain bench seat in front, you know how important proper thigh, back, and lumbar support can be. By the Eighties and Nineties, manufacturers started to get a little better with seat design, incorporating lumbar support and bolsters for the sides and thighs; any car, though, can start to get uncomfortable after enough hours behind the wheel.

Lumbar support while driving isn’t just important for people with back problems. A well-designed lumbar cushion should tilt the pelvis slightly forward to put a natural curvature into the lumbar area of the spine, taking pressure off the tailbone and spine.
